DIY Peppermint & Lavender Heel Balm To Fix Dry, Cracked Heels

Your feet have a tough job. They help keep you upright and move you from place to place daily. How do you reward them? By stuffing them in socks and shoes everyday. By the time the warm weather approaches and you are ready to free them for the season, they need some help, especially your dry, cracked heels.

Let’s get them back into shape with a healing peppermint and lavender heel balm. Peppermint and lavender both have anti-fungal and healing properties that are perfect for your feet, and they smell great together. With a little TLC, your feet will be ready to face the world.

Supplies

Weighscale

The most accurate way to measure your dry ingredients is to weigh them. Yes, 2 oz is equal to 1/4 cup but you can not compare dry measurements to volume measurements. For example, 2 oz of coconut oil in its solid state will not be the same “size” as 2 oz of cocoa butter.  To get a consistent product, it’s better to weigh it. If you do not have a scale and use a measuring cup instead, it’s not the end of the world. Your end result may be a looser balm. I set the scale to zero with my cup on it first, then added the coconut oil to get to 2 oz.

Cocoa butter usually comes in a large hunk. It’s easy to scrape off what you need with a small knife. Cocoa butter is solid at room temperature, but it will start to melt in you hands the more you handle it.

Melt

Add the coconut oil and cocoa butter in a heat proof cup or jar. Put the cup into a pan with enough water come up the side about 2 inches. Turn the burner on low and let the  ingredients slowly melt.

Add Essential Oils

Once the coconut oil and cocoa butter has melted, carefully remove the cup from the pan. Add in the peppermint and lavender essential oils.

Pour and Cool

Pour the melted heel balm into a 4 oz glass jar. Let it sit at room temperature until completely cooled. It will become solid. Cover with a lid and store in a cool, dry place.

How to Use

The heel balm works best if you do a little bit of prep work on your feet before hand. Soak your feet in warm water for 10-15 minutes. Follow up with a pumice stone or foot scrub to remove dry skin from your heel. Towel dry and add a generous amount of heel balm. Cover your feet with a pair of socks afterwards to ensure the moisture has time to soak in. Your heels will be back flip-flop ready in no time.
